Come and sleep like a monk at the Abbaye Royale de la Réau

Come and “sleep like a monk” by candlelight at the Abbaye Royale de la Réau, in one of the five monks’ quarters, with a simple and plentiful breakfast in the refectory. A wonderfully novel experience – deep sleep assured!

Situated on the second floor of the monastery buildings, accessible via an old wooden staircase, the monks’ quarters once housed the bedrooms of the canons. The decoration is purely monastic; simple but at the same time not austere. A long, covered corridor laid with old tiles leads to each quarter. Large 17th century windows illuminate the pale coloured rooms which all face the south side of the park. The beds are made of wood with drapes to protect from draughts as in olden days – no straw however, but a good mattress enclosed by neat curtains. A rush chair, and a table or a chest are the only decoration. A screen hides the washbasin in each quarter; four bathrooms with toilets at the end of the corridor. In short, you will experience the real life of a monk at the abbey for a night or two. Breakfast is served each morning from 8.00 in the old refectory on the ground floor: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bread, butter, and jams home-made from our orchard fruits.

This is an ideal retreat location for a group of fifteen, a magical night for individuals, or for families searching for shared moments, an unusual night in a timeless setting.
